Tell us about what you do at Afterpay
I am a Graduate Software Developer coming up through the Afterpay Graduate program. The program will give me the opportunity to rotate into different tech teams within the company, and allow me to explore varied aspects of the development process before finding my niche. Myself and the other grads have been given a support network of mentors, managers and team mates to create an environment safe for learning and growing.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Usually I start the day with a greeting to everyone on my team, via slack if we are working remotely. I might finish off work that I had from yesterday, or if I’m waiting for something new to start I’ll just make sure I go over what I learnt the day before. On days we have stand-ups I’ll join in and listen to all the cool fun stuff my team is working on, and pipe in with anything I have to contribute whether it be progress or blockers. Then continue with any jobs I have been assigned and I might ask people to pair with me and help me which everyone is so willing to do. My favourite part of the day is when I am able to work with others to come up with solutions.
Why do you love working at Afterpay?
I love working at Afterpay because I get to work and learn from so many brilliant and talented people, from the co-founders’ stories to my colleagues, all their stories and experience inspire me. I really love how much the company cares about their people, during the covid crisis they have always kept us in the loop, given us support to be able to work from home and flexibility with family. Everyone I have met so far has been super friendly, you could always find someone to have a chat with in the kitchen or even remotely we still find ways to be social.
Tell us something about you
Outside of work, I love to get outdoors for a camping trip, hike or mountain bike ride, especially when the weather is good. If the weather is not so good, I like to get arty and crafty with some pottery, leather crafts and furniture making. I could keep going, I collect hobbies and love learning all different types of skills.
